What are the main tasks of a DesignLab coordinator?

It’s difficult to list the numerous tasks in a few lines, but basically it’s about managing the creative design process. That may sound like a contradiction, but it’s not. We developed a method to design new products and services based on the unmet needs, and the real job-to-be-done to create a unique and sustainable difference in the market. The ambition is to improve the user experience, usability and marketability of every new product and service.

I don’t like to dream up ideas that don’t work.

What skills would you say are
most important for a Coordinator?

Today, the user becomes more demanding, and that’s fine but challenging. To turn an idea into a successful product, it’s crucial to identify the reasons to reject and adopt before starting to design.
This means that our job exceeds mastering the traditional design skills and requires also a lot of inquisitiveness to understand the perceptual and cognitive biases that affect behavior. It’s in fact a mixture of analytical and conceptual thinking combined with a number of creative skills.

What do you enjoy about working
at Verhaert?

For me, it’s by all means the diversity that makes it great to work here. The variety in people, projects and international clients makes every day a new day. Never a dull moment at Verhaert. And due to the collaboration with all other labs, we end up with real concrete stuff instead of only a sketch with an idea. I don’t like to dream up ideas that don’t work.
