Edmundo Miranda

UX, UI & Graphic Designer

Edmundo is a UI/UX designer working at Load since November 2019. Some years ago he decided to change careers, first from Urban Planning to Quality & Production Manager and then to one of his biggest passions: Design. At Load he has been working with several kinds of digital products from simple to more complex websites (such as Climar/complex product filtering and outputs), medical apps like Antelope, Cefaly (Design) or MAAPP, some revamps for AtoBe and a nice building management app for AOF.

You’re a passionate graphic
designer. What sparked your
interest in UX/UI design?

The big picture was to be more prepared as a designer to help brands and companies provide better solutions for their users in an increasingly digital society. But also because, some years prior to that, I had my first contact with Design Thinking methodology. It made a lot of sense to me, so I decided to dive a bit more on this subject and understand the importance of the Human Centered Design. From there it became clear that the digital world was a field to explore. I specialized in UI/UX and looked for companies that would appreciate this approach. That’s how I ended up at Load.

Being a great UI/UX designer is all about listening to the user and stakeholder, avoiding our assumptions in a first approach.

What does it mean to be a great UX/UI designer?

Being a great UI/UX designer is all about listening to the user and stakeholder, avoiding our assumptions in a first approach. It’s all about trying to imagine that you’re the user yourself, putting yourself in their shoes. It’s also about seeking new trends and approaches for UI/UX, being organized and avoiding disputes between developers and designers because those are worthless. It’s nice to learn from them, exchange ideas with them. Thus, building a well-matched team. And if you are born with a special gift for aesthetics, even better! :).

How do you keep up with the latest trends and movements in digital?

First of all I believe that the UX/ Human Centered Design approach is still a huge trend. Regarding user needs and behavior I also believe that we’ll have to provide short content, allowing the user to not waste too much of their time. This is becoming increasingly important in a world where people have increasingly less time and are bombed with tons of content in several platforms. That’s why UX writing/microcopy will be one of the tools to help with that. If talking about aesthetics, I think bold fonts and simplicity still prevail. Shortcomings vs. pixel perfect can also be a trend to design more unique products. Regarding technologies, in my opinion, solutions using 3D/VR/AR will grow a lot in the next few years; voice user interfaces and commands as well, allied to movement recognition will soon be new challenges for our industry.
