Tell us what your job involves.
In general, I would describe it as trying to help wherever possible, but nowadays it mostly focuses on 3 main topics. Android development for customers like Degudap, Worldline and Easyorder. C++ development for mobile cross-platform development foruality Assurance, is not only a stage in the software development cycle, but a component of the whole process for companies like Renson, and also for library development to facilitate integrating the CTEP terminal protocol for Worldline. Lastly, I’m involved in setting up and maintaining the IT infrastructure for Verhaert Digital and a few customers. Most of it has been moved to or deployed on AWS using infrastructure as code.”
What characterizes good software
engineering?
Good software engineering, to me, aims to be maintainable while keeping in mind the requirements and goals of the project, as well as balancing the business side of things. Maintainability comes in many forms like making sure that your code is easy to read documenting decisions and workflows, making sure your code is easy to verify and refactor, ensuring there’s a decent test suite. Additionally, I think it’s crucial to have the right tools to aid you in maintaining and automating these things.

What do you like most about your
job?
The variety of topics that I encounter, combined with the wide range of knowledge that colleagues bring to the table. This means that I’m able to further broaden and strengthen my knowledge on a lot of different topics. Working from home is also something I’ve thoroughly enjoyed over the past years.
