Roeland Croket is an IT System Engineer who joined Verhaert IT team at Kruibeke in May 2022. He’s been working in IT for more than 15 years in diverse industries like logistics, healthcare and the chemical sector.
What’s the most interesting aspect of your job?
Everything in IT evolves really fast and every company has its own way of working so the job never gets boring and drives me to keep up with new developments, not just in the world but also at the company. In the past, I was used to maintaining mostly on-premise systems and now a lot of companies are aiming more for cloud-based solutions. So here at Verhaert, I’m gaining more and more experience with cloud solutions.
Helping others is what motivates me the most. When colleagues are satisfied with the proposed solutions or services, it gives me a sense of purpose and satisfaction.
What do you think are the char-
acteristics of a good IT System
Engineer?
An IT System Engineer needs good problem-solving skills, it’s one of the most important characteristics to have. In IT you also get in touch with a lot of people so you must always be open to listening and un- derstanding their questions, issues and frustrations. In my opinion, good understanding, communication and patience ensure that problems can be solved more efficiently and people are satisfied.
What motivates you to do your
best at your job?
People! Helping others is what motivates me the most. When colleagues are satisfied with the proposed solutions or services, it gives me a sense of purpose and satisfaction. In this way, I take pride in my work. Besides that, I also enjoy getting to know people. The work culture at Verhaert encourages social interaction, which also has a positive impact on its environment. There isn’t a day that I don’t see smiles or hear laughter at work.
