You’re working on site as a project
manager. What project are you
currently working on?
Since January, I’ve been working on Project One at Verhaert. I don’t think this project needs any introduction. Within Project One, I’m the technical project manager of the consumable part of the system. The very short timeline has been a challenge in managing the project. However, the huge commitment of all team members has made it possible to stay on schedule so far. For me doing this project has also been a very nice opportunity to get to know my colleagues at Verhaert and Lambda-X .”
Understanding the technical challenges helps to better judge the impact on the project.
What sparked your interest in
managing the complete product
development process?
When working as an engineer I realized that I wanted to be more involved with all aspects of a project then just the part I was working on. Gradually my role in projects started to expand and the focus on detailed works reduced. Especially when working with a highly motivated and skilled team in a fast paced project such as Project One, being a project manager is great.
How do you, as a project manager,
keep a helicopter view without
losing yourself in details?
This is always a challenge. With my technical background I still have an interest in the details. But as a project manager you have to trust the team and leave the technical details up to them. It does help if you can understand the technical challenges to better judge the impact on the project.
